November '20 Update

Conferences in South/Southeast Asia

As we head into December, the weekly Zoom classes on expository preaching are continuing and going well, despite spotty internet connection. Please be praying that we can get this figured out so that classes will not be disrupted.

I have also had the honor of speaking (virtually) at a few conferences. The first was a missions conference attended by pastors and leaders from underground churches in a predominantly Muslim South Asian country. I was asked to speak on suffering – a humbling request given that these brothers and sisters have suffered far more than I and experience intense and dangerous opposition to their faith on a daily basis. I spoke on being motivated to fulfill the Great Commission in the midst suffered from Paul’s words in 2 Cor 5:11-21. Many expressed how blessed they were to be able to gather together and listen to a message from God’s word and sing with fellow believers. These are not common experiences because they must be careful not to be caught when they gather – so singing out loud is something they are unable to do. As I said, it was very humbling to be speaking to these dear saints.

I will have the opportunity to speak at a conference on expository preaching in another part of this country to a larger number of pastors. For many it will be their first exposure to expository preaching, so please be praying for me. Pray also that the Lord would provide the resources for ongoing training to begin next month.

I also had the privilege to speak at another expository preaching conference in Indonesia. My particular session was titled “The process of expository preaching” which gave an overview of how to study a passage of Scripture in preparation for an expository sermon. This conference was coordinated between The Master’s Academy International (TMAI) and a prominent evangelical seminary in Indonesia (STTII). Please pray for the Lord to use this conference to open the door for future training in Indonesia.

Prayer Requests

  1. Please commit to regularly pray for our many brothers and sisters around the world where it is dangerous for them to be a Christian.

  2. Pray especially for the pastors there who are on the front lines in South Asia and the preparation for starting a new group there.

  3. Please continue to pray for the newest group in Malaysia and Myanmar that I would be clear and they would understand the material.

  4. Praise: two churches have committed to ongoing support in the last month
