December '22 Update
Please do not forward this update for the safety of those mentioned.
Well, once Covid travel restrictions began to lift early this year, the opportunity for me to do in-person training went from dream to reality.
And like someone coming off a diet only to binge at the first chance, I lined up several trips for this year, ending with a grand finale 6 week trip in October and November.
Since February I was able to travel to South Asia (twice), India, the Philippines (twice), and Myanmar. All told, I traveled over 125,000 miles through over 60 airports and nearly 400 hours of travel time. That’s not including all the road miles that I covered in each of the countries while I was there.
And though at times the travel was exhausting, it was such a blessing to be able to be there in person. Not just because of how much more effective it is to teach in person but even more so to have the fellowship with these many dear brothers. And beyond that to serve and to fellowship in their churches.
Myanmar
My last trip overseas this year was to Myanmar, which was my first time there. I was able to meet (in person for the first time) several pastors who I had been teaching by Zoom for the last 18 months. One of them is Pastor Philip who pastors a small church in Yangon where I had the privilege to preach while I was there.
I also had the opportunity to do training at the TMAI training center there with fellow GMI missionary Jeremy Bustle who had invited me to come. I taught an introduction to the Minor Prophets (‘The Twelve’) as well as an in-depth study of the book of Jonah. I was greatly encouraged by the faithfulness of these dear pastors and look forward to coming again next year.
Prayer Requests
Please pray for several Christmas outreaches taking place in South Asia where I have been invited to bring the gospel message (via Zoom). These outreaches include many Muslims.
Please pray for my January trip to South Asia – for safety, health, and preparation for the training.
Pray also for the pastors there who face many trials from persecution, poverty, and health struggles. Pray that they would understand what they are learning and apply it in their ministries.
Please be in prayer for Tina to be able to travel with me next year.
